Raymond G. Wade passed away on March 22, 2009 at the age of 74 at his
home in Vallejo after a short battle with cancer.
Born in Benicia, CA on January 16th 1935,
Ray attended Federal Terrace Elementary School, Vallejo Jr. High and
graduated from Vallejo High in 1954. He attended Solano College where he
entered the Draftsman Apprenticeship Program and started his career at
Mare Island Naval Shipyard. Ray retired in 1994 as the Chief
Engineer/Director of Ocean Engineering Operations at Mare Island Naval
Shipyard. During his career he was awarded the Superior Civilian Service
Award from the Department of Navy. After retirement, Ray was past
president and member of Vallejo Golf Club, Executive Board Member of
Donner Lake Property Owner’s Association, member of Napa Gun Club, and
Wagon Master for the 559 R.V.er’s.
Ray is survived by his wife of 54 years Barbara and his four
children; Mike and Sally (Wade) Moreno; Kenneth and Jackie Wade; Thomas
and Michelle Wade; Chris and Diane (Wade) Colson; and eight
grandchildren – Jessica and Christopher Moreno, Thomas Jr. and Garrett
Wade, Isaac Fish and Chelsea Wade, Ashley and Lindsey Colson; and three
great-grandchildren – Alexis, Kenadie and Amelia Fish.
Ray will be remembered for his enduring love and devotion to his
wife, children, grandchildren and friends. Ray’s biggest passion in life
was his love for his cabin at Donner Lake with the annual family
tradition of sharing 4th of
July holiday vacations. Ray will also be remembered for his love
of golf, travel, playing the guitar and classic cars. Ray was preceded
in death by his parents Fred and Velma Wade and older sister Doreen
DeMartile.
Visitation will be held Saturday, March 28th 1:00
p.m. - 7:00 p.m., with a Rosary Service on Sunday March 29th 7:00
p.m. at Colonial Chapels, 1000 Redwood St. Vallejo. Mass of Christian
Burial will be held 12:00 p.m. Monday, March 30th at
St. Basils Catholic Church, 1200 Tuolumne St. Vallejo. Reception and
celebration of Ray’s life will be held immediately following the funeral
service at Mare Island Naval Museum, Pipe Shop 56, on Railroad Ave. Mare
Island, Vallejo, CA.
The Wade Family has requested donations in Ray’s honor be submitted
to Blue Rock Springs Junior Golf Program, Blue Rock Springs Golf Course,
655 Columbus Pkwy, Vallejo, Ca. and The American Cancer Society.
